Results of the Cudeca Player of the Year Competition 2022/23
Working as lead sponsors alongside Spence Clarke, Vinomarket, Paul Scotton Design, Ibex Insurance, El Paraiso Golf, and Callaway Golf Europe, Black Box Golf is proud to announce that we have helped raise a stunning € 7,620 to help the work of the Cudeca Foundation in Málaga.
What is the Cudeca Foundation?
Founded in the 1990s, the Cudeca Foundation aims to change the process of dying for patients diagnosed with terminal illnesses, such as cancer, adding quality of life to their remaining days through their special kind of caring.
The foundation ensures support for the patients and their families, providing all services completely free of charge.
Based in Malaga, the charity has other famous honorary trustees and ambassadors including:
· Hollywood film star Antonio Banderas
· Actor and journalist Domi del Postigo
· Actress and model Remedios Cervantes
· Grammy award-winning pianist Chucho Valdés
· State official María del Carmen Campos Palero
All donations, including the € 7,620 raised by the Cudeca Player of the Year Competition 2022/23, will go towards keeping essential services running, including stays in in-patient units, home care programmes, and day centre stays, alongside providing medical intervention from doctors, nurses, psychologists, and social workers.
Everyone here at Black Box Golf is delighted to have helped raise much-needed money for such a selfless and special charity foundation, and we look forward to helping raise even more at next year’s Player of the Year competition.
How does the Cudeca Player of the Year Competition work?
Throughout the year, six of the most popular golf societies on the coast doggedly played six rounds to determine which player they would bring to the Grand Final Weekend.
These golf societies and their player included:
· Links Bar – Matt O’Connell
· Just Marbella Golf – John Balague
· Sala Golf – Svetlana Kripaytite
· Golf in the Sun – Simon van Dessel
· Med Golf – Graham Bassi
· Los Vikingos – Bjorn Bjarstad
These six finalists were then joined by two lucky Grand Prize winners, to play for the Cudeca Player of the Year 2022/23 in the Grand Final.
The Grand Final was hosted at the iconic Real Club Valderrama on Wednesday 12th April, where after an exciting end, Frederik Falkengren was crowned as the Cudeca Player of the Year for shooting an impressive total of 37 Stableford points.
How does the Player of the Year Competition raise money for the Cudeca Foundation?
The Player of the Year Competition raises money for the Cudeca Foundation in two ways.
Firstly, each player wishing to enter the competition donates a minimum of €10 to the Foundation, which allows them to compete. This enables them to experience the best 2 days of golf in Europe at The San Roque Club and the Real Club Valderrama, in the Grand Final.
Secondly, donations are made directly to the Foundation through sponsor donations - ensuring that the Cudeca Foundation can make final days happier, calmer, and less upsetting for the patients and their families in Malaga, no matter their financial background, for many years to come.
Looking forward to the Player of the Year Competition 2023/24 – how can you help?
If you are a golf lover living in the Costa del Sol, why not join us for the Player of the Year Competition 2023/24?
It is hoped that the next edition will welcome 6 new societies and groups to the competition, allowing the event to double in size. This is the simplest and most enjoyable way to support such a deserving charity.
