Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy Form Golf Simulation-Based League TGL

For a sport as aged and storied as golf, it’s always impressive to see new and exciting innovations making their way into the game.

The new TGL league is one of them, combining the convenience and controlled environments of indoor golf simulators with the real-life elements that make golf one of the most unique and unmissable sports on the planet.

But what exactly is the TGL? How does it work compared to a traditional golf club? And how does it utilise golf simulator technology? At Black Box Golf, we know a thing or two about golf simulators ourselves, so keep reading to learn more about this new sporting development!

What is the TGL?

The TGL - or ‘Tomorrow's Golf League’ - is the home of a series of indoor professional golf events.

Created by golf legends Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in partnership with the PGA, the league will begin on January 8th, 2025.

Six separate teams of three from six different cities across the United States will compete in a series of 2-hour matches, to ultimately determine who will walk away with a championship trophy.

The competition will be broken down into two sections:

  • A nine-hole three-on-three

  • A six-hole 1v1

Teams and players will pick up points for each victory. If the scores are tied at the end of all holes, overtime will be introduced to determine a winner.

Where will the TGL be held?

One of the reasons the TGL has been garnering considerable buzz in the past few weeks - beyond just the huge names involved - is where it will be held.

TGL matches will emanate from a brand new, state-of-the-art indoor golf arena in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

The SoFi Center, along with being home to some of the most outstanding indoor golf technology ever created (more on that in a moment) will also feature enough indoor seating for 1500 avid golf fans to come and watch the action live in person.

Better still, and a first for indoor golf tournaments of this kind, all games will be broadcast live on ESPN in the United States, making it a truly unmissable event for die-hard golf fans and casual viewers looking to check out something totally new and refreshing!

How does TGL work?

In layman’s terms, the TGL will be played in a similar fashion to those using at-home golf simulators, but on a much larger scale.

In fact, it’s so much larger that players will hit their shots into a screen that’s 25 times larger than the average golf simulator, for a breathtaking viewing experience for those in attendance and those watching on television.

Much like a golf simulator, the screen will analyse the golf swing, impact and ball flight using launch monitors to determine precisely where on the fairway (or rough!) the ball would have landed in real play.

Then, once the players have “landed” the ball on the putting green, they’ll turn around 180 degrees to be greeted by a custom-made green packed with the latest in golf analysis tech to finish the hole.

To make the game even more realistic - and challenging - the golfers will be able to switch between playing surfaces in quick succession, depending on the results of their last shot - they can play off the tee, fairway, rough or sand.

With some of the biggest names in the sport today set to take part - including the likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Colin Morikawa, Justin Thomas and many more - golfing fans will be spoilt by the talent and technology on offer in the new TGL.

Tomorrow’s Golf League is a prime example of just how far golf technology has come in recent years. But there’s no denying that a league such as this could not exist without the popularity and expansion of golf simulators.

If you’re looking to create your own version of the TGL at home (or in any suitable space) and the driving range is getting a bit repetitive, a golf simulator worth its weight in gold is your only choice!

Not only will you be able to refine your game with friends to an incredible degree of accuracy, but you’ll also be building your own golfing sanctuary where you can grab a club and squeeze in some practice whenever the mood strikes you! Plus, you can easily keep track of all your scores and partake in online tournaments with your friends, for a social golfing experience almost as good as the real thing.

The Trackman Virtual Golf Simulator, for instance, is one of the most widely-used golf simulators on the market today, with Trackman products being used regularly by PGA pros to get the most out of their swing.

With a Trackman simulator, the high-end camera system and launch monitors can offer in-depth insights using accurate data gathered from swing analysis, so you can make the appropriate alterations the next time you're hitting balls on a real-life golf course.

So don’t delay! To find out more information about the Trackman simulator (including how much space you'd need to install it) and how it can completely revolutionise your golf game, speak to a member of the Black Box Golf team today!
