"It should be here to stay" - Shane Lowry comments on golf's place in future Olympic Games

One thing is for certain; all of the golfers participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics will have spent endless hours perfecting their swing in advance. Finishing -5 in Round 4 of the tournament (not quite low enough to reach the podium) Lowry was keen to emphasise golf’s importance at the historic games and said it should be seen as a chance to promote the sport to a wider audience in the years to come:

“I think as regards golf in the Olympics; I think it should be here to stay,” said Lowry.

“Walking onto that first tee and getting announced on Thursday was incredible… there’s very few tournaments that are at that level. Honestly, it felt like one of the biggest tournaments in the world, it really did.

“I think it was an amazing week for golf and it was an amazing week for golf in the Olympics, and I think it will grow going forward.”
